O patron of the impoverished
who though son of a king
counted yourself among
the poor in spirit,
you whose love abundantly flowed
to all in need,
who sought the purity
of our Blessed Mother,
who thirsted for our Lord
in the Blessed Sacrament,
who devoted yourself
to prayer
and constant works of charity –
teach us this day to be pure
and set our hearts
on serving the poor
that we too might come
to share the kingdom
with all God’s children,
all those who empty themselves
of the things of this world
to find the grace
of Heaven.
